2010 'Movember' Charity Fundraiser

Rob Freeman Building Ltd this year opted to support the charity fundraiser Movember 2010. Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month.  The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men.

Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days. The campaign’s focus is to raise awareness and funds for the number one cancer affecting men – prostate cancer with funds raised through Movember’s UK campaign going to benefit, The Prostate Cancer Charity (TPCC), the UK’s leading prostate cancer charity.

Managing Director Rob Freeman decided to support this campaign and his company employees, site managers, tradesman and labourers joined him stepping up to the challenge. On Tuesday 30th November the final day of Movember the companies participants gathered to compare results with prizes for the best and poorest moustaches grown, and also for the most money raised being awarded by their guest of honour, client Mrs Caroline Evans. The total fund raised for the charity was an impressive £1000. Mr Freeman commented:

“This has been a very worthwhile charity event but the majority of the participants are being paid more for shaving their moustaches OFF at the end of the month rather than for actually growing them. It appears that looking like David Hodo (construction worker in the Village People) is not so appealing."
